Ministries

Social Outreach Ministries

Living Word believes very strongly that one of our callings is to help those in need of the necessities of life.  To that end we support a wide variety of social ministries including:

Community Service Center - The Center is run by the Seventh Day Adventist Church and provides food and clothing to those in need.  Rather than compete with them, we cooperate with them.  We keep a shopping cart in our outer lobby to receive on going food donations.  At Halloween we "Trick-or-Treat So Others May Eat" - members bring food gifts which are collected by the children and brought to the altar during worship.  A Christmas tree adorns our narthex during Advent - a tree is decorated with our donations of hats, scarves, gloves and socks which are then given to the center.  Some years we adopt a family for Christmas from names supplied by the Center. 

Battered Women's Shelter - We have ongoing collections of feminine and toiletry articles needed by the shelter.  This past Christmas we assembled gift packages for mothers and children who spent Christmas at the shelter.

Lutheran World Relief is an international agency which supplies living necessities to those in other countries.  There are a wide range of ways to support their efforts.  Most recently we gathered clothing, blankets and school kits.  The school kits are made up of the basic supplies every grade student takes for granted when school begins.

CROP Walk for world hunger -  In cooperation with other community churches, our members have walked in this fund raiser for hunger ministry both locally and abroad.

Support two children overseas -  Our Sunday School children send money through an international agency to provide basic necessities for a child in India and another in Ecuador.

Youth Events

The youth are active in social outreach ministry through a number of fund raisers (i.e. sub sandwiches on Super Bowl Sunday).  To date all money raised has been given to various social service agencies or to the church for needed items.  The youth also sponsor an annual talent show for the congregation.

Women's Group

The women sponsor an annual salad supper.  Each year the supper has a social outreach ministry theme.  Last year, each woman attending was asked to bring towel sets which were given to the Community Service Center for distribution to those in need.  The women also sponsor a Secret Sister program.  Each woman participating draws, in secret, the name of another woman to whom she then sends cards and gives gifts on special occasions for the next year.  At the end of the year the names are revealed and new names are drawn.

Medina Lutheran Outreach

Medina Lutheran Outreach is a cooperative ministry among several of the Lutheran Churches in Medina County.  Instead of seeing ourselves as competitors, we meet to see where we can cooperate for more effective Christian outreach to our rapidly growing county.  For the past three years we hired an Outreach Development Minister to assist in visitations to new residents.

Monthly Fellowship Activities

We believe the church family that eats and plays together is a healthier family.  Events vary from year to year but have included such things as game nights, progressive dinners, movie nights, bowling, wine and cheese party at a local winery, miniature golf, etc.
